Tarpon Fly Fishing

As you may know, Boca Grande is the "Tarpon fishing capital of the world". Generally, April through July are booked strictly for fly fishing tarpon. In the early spring as water temperatures begin to warm up, hoards of tarpon make their way to the inshore waters of Boca Grande and the Charlotte Harbor. Fly fishing for these big fish is unlike anything else on the planet. Rather than fishing, the days spent on the water looking for these beasts is more of a hunt. Your heart will race and your knees will shake. Tarpon fishing is magical, raw and very special when everthing comes together. With an accurate cast, these beasts are willing to demolish a fly and provide a memory that will stick with you forever.

The greater Boca Grande area offers some of the most diverse tarpon fishing situations on the planet. Most early season days are spent fishing in the backcountry. Early season fish are the biggest of the bunch. Some fish hooked are in the 150 - 200 pound class. Shallow, clear grass flats with laid up tarpon is the name of the game. They are hungry, and ready to jump and run into your backing in a matter of seconds.

As the season continues, huge schools of migratory fish swim up and down the beaches of southwest Florida. We will wait for strings of fish to come to the boat in the crystal clear Gulf water. This is the ultimate sight fishing experience for a fly fishing angler. You can see every detail of the tarpons body. You can see every thought going on in the fishes brain as he comes up to demolish your fly!

Although the majority of the migratory fish leave in the fall, with a few days of warm weather and good tides they can still be found in the colder months. If you are looking for the ultimate fly fishing experience and a thrill like no other, tarpon fishing is for you!
